Description:

Tarragon Property Services provides property management for a diverse portfolio of multifamily and commercial/retail properties. The key position will provide full-cycle accounting support in residential and commercial real estate. Specific duties include managing cash positions, posting journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and preparing full financials. This is a key position in our finance organization and has routine exposure with senior management. The position reports directly to the Controller and works closely with Business and Regional Managers to provide accounting and general business support.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform month end closing tasks including recording journal entries, calculating accruals, performing variance analyses, and reconciling GL accounts.
  • Responsible for preparation and analysis of financial statements and internal reports in accordance with closing calendar.
  • Manage and maintain timely and accurate cash management, including monthly bank reconciliations and cash flow forecasting to ensure entities are adequately funded to meet its obligations.
  • Responsible for fixed asset accounting including capital vs. expense, WIP tracking, recommending useful lives and depreciation schedules for asset additions.
  • Reviewing expenses and revenue postings for proper coding.
  • Prepare annual Federal Tax Return supporting documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual budgets and monthly forecasting as requested.
  • Participate in special projects as needed or directed by Controller.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with team members, coworkers and management.
Requirements

Essential Job Functions

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in commercial real estate or property management preferred.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in the United States.
  • General understanding of members equity and related party transactions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products – Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with general ledger, accounts payable and billing software systems; Yardi and Avid experience preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for organization.
  • Ability to work independently yet exercise sound business judgment to know when to ask for help and/or guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal skills including ability to deliver well written reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
